THE RESERVE

Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve is an 18,000-hectare mountain reserve in the foothills of South Africa’s northern Drakensberg. Its main gate is about 3.5 hours’ drive from O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Its vast, clear dam is loved by fly-fishers and sailors, while the cliffs above are home to Cape vultures and black eagles, with the rare bearded vulture an occasional visitor.
